Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance…and for the first time I’m seeing a lot of people referring to it as Transgender Day of Resilience.
I’m not really sure quite what to say about it today. I feel like today, more than ever before, the resilience is the most important aspect to keep in mind.
That’s not to say that remembrance it’s important. It’s been a record-breaking year for trans people in the US. And not in a positive way.
But when adversity reaches a feverish pitch, it’s on us to settle down, grind it out and shine. And for those that can’t find the strength to keep shining: reach out. Find a friend. Find a stranger. Call for help! We are an incredible community and our strength is in each other as much as it is within ourselves. These times to come will test our ability to self care and to care for each other and we must not back down. We must not give in.
For those that are gone: rest in power. For those that are struggling: you are not alone. And for those that are well: reach out and help those around you if you’re able. Together we can get though anything.
Until next time,
